Upcoming Events

Dear Parents/Carers,

A huge welcome to our new children in Reception and to the other new children that have joined us and welcome back to all our existing pupils.  We were blessed with amazing weather throughout the holidays which I’m sure has helped energise the children so that they are ready for another exciting year at St Michael’s.

We also welcome two new members of staff to our team;  Mrs Richards is supporting Miss Ball in Year 2 and Mrs Sharpe will be supporting Miss Bransby in Year R.

Unfortunately, as many of you are aware, we were the victims of vandalism during the holidays and the children’s beautiful garden was destroyed.  The response from the whole community has been absolutely overwhelming and a heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who donated time or money to restore the garden to its former glory, we are extremely grateful.

Everyone looks extremely smart in their school uniforms and hopefully this will continue throughout the year.  Please can you ensure that all children have a PE kit in school every week - spot checks will be taking place.

The After School Club is now up and running and the Breakfast Club is continuing – if you would like to find out more about these clubs, please contact Mrs Hollis in the office.  If your child is going to attend the After School Club and you need to contact a member of staff regarding collection, please telephone 07704-737533.

As usual, we are trying to offer the children as many  opportunities as possible; Next week Year 3 will be starting swimming and Year 6 gymnastics – please make sure that children in Year 3 have their swimming costumes and a coat to wear on the journey.  Year 1 and Year 2 started tennis today and Years 1 and 5 will be dancing every Thursday.   Year 4 are going to be experiencing drama on a Wednesday afternoon, and at the end of term there will be an opportunity for parents/carers to come and watch a short performance.

This Thursday some children in Year 6 will be sitting their Kent Test; we wish them every success and encourage them to have an early night on Wednesday!

All staff and children will be participating in Internet Safety training on 21st September facilitated by Mandy Kimpton – our Community Support Officer.  In addition she is kindly offering training for all parents/carers from 2 to 3pm and I would encourage you all to attend – it is essential that us adults keep up to date with what our children are accessing/doing on the Internet.  Mandy is an expert on the latest ‘fads’ and precautionary measures to take.

Please can I remind you that parking in the school grounds is for staff only.  Cars parking in the car park to drop children off at school are risking the safety of the other children.  In addition, the zig-zag lines outside the school are also there to protect the children and should not be used to drop children off, however quickly you plan to do it.

Reminders for next month; there is phonics training for all Year R parents from 2.30-3pm on October 4th and Year R are having their first class photo taken by the Kentish Express on 6th October.

Years 5 and 6 are off to France on 14th October to visit our partner school in Ardres.  Please can you make sure that you have sent your permission slips back and that your child’s passport is in date.

If you or anyone you know has a child that is due to start school in September 2017, please can you let them know that we have an open afternoon on 18th October.

We have tried to plan ahead so that you are able to organise your diaries.  Please check the calendar on the school website from the drop down menu to find out when Christmas performances are etc.

Kind regards,

Sara Williamson
