April 2018

Week Ending: 16.11.18

Whole School Attendance: 96.01%.

Dear Parents/Carers,

As I write this newsletter it is pouring with rain, last weekend we had a heatwave and a few weeks ago we had snow, who knows what we can expect next week – how apt that this week is our geography week!

This week has been Geography week, during this time we have; had a whole school geography walk, YR have looked at journeys and different places e.g. woods etc., Y1 different uses of building and spaces, Y2 map reading and drawing of the local area, Y3 map reading and drawing of the local area including physical features (man-made and natural), Y4 Plastic pollution, Y5 India and Y6 map reading and drawing of the local area including looking at local business and reading a compass.

Our Tenterden Schools Trust ‘Oliver’ performance in March was a huge success. The children sang beautifully and the acting was amazing.  Many thanks go to all the adults that made this possible.  Let’s hope this is the start of a yearly TST event.

Every year group participated in fire safety talks on Monday 16th April – please do ask your children about their escape plans.

On Friday 20th April Year 4 children confidently shared their experiences of Swattenden with the whole school and their parents/carers.  The learning that took place coupled with the amazing memories was tangible.  Thank you Year 4.

The netball A and B teams continue to go from strength to strength coming fifth and fourth respectively in the recent Ashford and District schools sports Netball Tournament – well done to everyone who took part, and many thanks to Miss Jones, Mrs Light and Mrs Sharpe for enabling this to happen.

On Thursday 3rd May Year 4 will be performing their dances to parents and carers in the school hall at 2.45pm

Year 5 are currently learning all about gardens and gardening as part of their topic this term.  Any donations of plastic plant pots, seed trays, plants, seeds etc., would be very gratefully received.

Year R are visiting the Homewood Farm on Wednesday 9th May where they are hoping to see pigs, goats and chickens so as to link in beautifully with the traditional tales that they have been reading; The Three Little Pigs, The Little Red Hen and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Year 3 are off to The Living Land Show on Thursday 3rd May at the Kent County Showground.  We hope they all have a wonderful time and that the sun shines.

The PTA have kindly arranged a KS1 (Years R, 1 & 2) and KS2 disco on Thursday 10th May; KS1 from 3.30-4.45pm and KS2 from 5.15pm to 6.30pm.

Please can all photo requests be returned by Friday 11th May.

Monday 14th May marks the beginning of the KS2 SATs week.  Please ensure they have plenty of sleep during this week as it is exhausting.

We still have some places available for the Year 6 Bikeability course being run on 21st May.  This is an invaluable course designed to ensure that children ride their bikes safely, particularly as their move to secondary school is imminent.  Bikes and helmets can be borrowed providing advance warning is given.  Forms are available from the office.  Please be assured that all bikes will be checked to ensure that they are road worthy prior to the session.

Our School Census is being completed on 17th May; fish and chips will be provided by the catering staff and can be purchased via the online account.

On the 18th May we are celebrating the Royal Wedding that is taking place on Saturday 19th.  We will be having a non-uniform day; children are asked to wear red, white or blue.  The £1 donations are all going towards purchasing items for the tombola at the Fun Run on Sunday 10th June.

Parents/carers/grandparents are warmly welcome to join us for our collective worship first thing on a Monday morning at 9.10am.  Parents can to drop their children off at school as soon as the gates are supervised and then wander up to the church for a cup of coffee and a biscuit prior to our arrival.  The planned dates are listed below.
