March has certainly started off with some challenges regarding the weather. As I’m sitting here typing this newsletter, the sun is out and I can’t quite believe that last week we were immersed in snow! Thank you to staff and families who battled the elements to get the children to school on Friday.
Following an attendance update meeting today, it’s been reiterated that schools are being monitored extremely closely regarding their persistent absence. Unfortunately, we are steadily increasing the amount of persistent absence, which could result in us enforcing penalty notices in line with other schools. Naturally, we do not want to go down this avenue so we are asking people to maintain an attendance of at least 96.1% (less than 10 days per year absent). Medical evidence is now being requested by the School Liaison Officers to explain the above average absence due to sickness.
I am sure you all share my concerns and are willing to work with the school to improve our attendance.
Due to the atrocious weather last week, the science week, including the planetarium visit, has been re-scheduled to week commencing 21st May. A huge thank you to everyone who has sent in their sponsorship money, this has enabled us to pay for the planetarium which I’m sure will be an amazing experience for all children. Any outstanding payments will be gratefully received as soon as possible.
Due to the ‘Oliver’ show being postponed following snow, rehearsals for those children involved are continuing on Wednesdays until 4pm. There will be a full dress rehearsal on 21st March until 5pm.
Next week is our ‘Celebrating Difference’ week, this is where we will be exploring different cultures, families etc which fits in beautifully with the launch of our ‘love’ value on Monday.
All parents/carers should have received notification regarding parent consultations week commencing 19th March. Please can all slips be returned by 12th March.
Year 3 are off to Howletts on 14th March; payment is due by the end of the week please.
Year 5’s trip to Harry Potter World is on 22nd March – children need to be in school by 7.45am as the coach leaves sharp at 8am. The children will return to school at approximately 7pm. Permission slips and payments are due as soon as possible.
The Year 4 Swattenden residential trip is taking place from 27th to 29th March. Many thanks for the payments and permission slips that have been received to date, if you have not already done so, please return the slips and payment by Friday 23rd March.
Unfortunately, only 10 children have signed up for the Year 6 residential trip to Bewl Water. If we do not have 17 children signed up by Friday 16th March, we will have no alternative but to sadly cancel the trip.
