April 2017

Week Ending: 22/09/17

Whole School Attendance: 95.83%.

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you all had a joyful and restful Easter Holiday – we were certainly blessed with beautiful weather!

This Friday, 21st April is a very exciting one as we are celebrating our new academy status with Tenterden Infants and Juniors and Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre.  The day begins with a special service at St Mildred’s Church where the Bishop will officiate.  Representatives from the School Council will be attending the service and a joint Tenterden Schools Trust (TST) choir will be singing.  Representatives from both the Tenterden and St Michael’s communities have also been invited to attend.  Workshops have been organised at all schools throughout the day to include samba drumming.  The day will culminate with a procession down to Homewood where all children will gather together for a special service led by Lindsay Hammond.

In order to ensure that the day runs safely and smoothly, we will be having a practise run during the week.

The joint working between schools is already benefitting the children’s learning experiences; last term Year 4 visited the science labs where they took part in some exciting ‘firework making’ linked to their topic, Year 6 have visited and experienced a morning in the I-College and this term Year R is hoping to visit the Homewood Farm.  You may also have spotted our new TST minibus which will make transporting children to special events so much easier.

A huge thank you goes to the PTA for the beautiful daffodils that every ‘special lady’ received for Mothering Sunday, and to everyone for supporting our Red Nose Day - we raised £117.56 for Comic Relief.

On Wednesday 8th March Year 2 performed their drama ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ magnificently to their parents, and on 10th March every class throughout the school participated in a wonderful poetry performance, the culmination of an exciting week of poetry.

The Year R ‘Ugly Bug Dance’ was an absolute delight and I think we all enjoyed the audience participation!  The dance club also performed in front of their parents and carers; it is wonderful to see so many children committed and enjoying the performing arts.

Year 4 had an amazing time at Swattenden, where challenges, teamwork and fun all went hand in hand.  My thanks go to Mrs Paskhin, Miss Jones, Miss Spiers and Mr Lewis for making this trip such a memorable event.   Year 4 would like to share their experiences with their parents/carers at a class assembly on Friday 28th April at 2.40pm in the school hall.

Our netball team has played 3 matches so far, winning the last match against Willesborough 14-0.  Congratulations to everyone who took part and particularly to Harley Bryant who has received the star player award for two out of the three matches played – well done Harley!

In their recent competition, our new Sport Stacking team came 7th overall, a great first achievement.

Thank you to all the parents/carers that came to the KS1 Sex and Relationships talk, we will be circulating details of the talk as requested.

We are continuing to invite parents/carers/grandparents to join us for our collective worship first thing on a Monday morning at 9.10am.  Parents are welcome to drop their children off at school as soon as the gates are supervised and then wander up to the church for a cup of coffee and a biscuit prior to our arrival.  The planned dates are listed below.
